The early days
I was lucky enough to enjoy two careers at the same time.

In my twenties I designed and wrote the words of the ads that sold books by Sir Winston Churchill, Robert Graves and Nicholas Monsarrat, plus many others.
​
Later I was offered the opportunity to write and illustrate my own books and the first won a Mother Goose Award.
Writing opportunities came unexpectedly out of the blue, whilst painting was like pushing a load of cement up a very steep hill.
